Chadra-Fan Chadra-Fan are short aliens hailing from the urbanized world of Chad, which, during the course of the Galactic Civil War, was devastated by an ecological disaster, causing the displacement of many of its surviving people.

Personality: The stereotypical Chadra-Fan found off of Chad is often a technician (or a "Fringer"), fascinated with technological devices, and prone to disassembling and "improving" them when given a chance. Chadra-Fan have high metabolisms, and generally come across as energetic and inquisitive.

Physical Description: Furred humanoid, standing on average about 1 m tall as an adult, with a bat-like face, dominated by beady black eyes, large nostrils, a small muzzle, and large ears. Unlike bats, Chadra-Fan do not possess wings.

Chadra-Fan Homeworld: Chad.

Language: Chadi, though some learn Basic.

Adventurers: Most Chadra-Fan found beyond their homeworld are (or were) employees of "Chad-Tech", if before the Imperial era. As of the Rebellion and after, many Chadra-Fan found off-world are refugees from the ecological disaster wrought on their home.

Chadra-Fan Species Traits

  • -2 to Strength, -1 to Constitution. Chadra-Fan are short, light-weight and relatively fragile creatures.
  • Small-size. As Small-size creatures, Chadra-Fan gain a +1 size bonus to their Defense, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, and a +4 size bonus on Hide checks. However, they must use smaller weapons than humans use, and their lifting and carrying limits are three-quarters of those of Medium-size characters.
  • Chadra-Fan base speed is 6 meters.
  • Keen Sense of Smell and Hearing. Chadra-Fan receive a +2 bonus on scent-based Search checks and a +4 on Listen checks.
  • Low-Light Vision. Chadra-Fan can see twice as far as a Human in dim light (such as moonlight or underwater). They retain the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions.
  • Echo-Location. Chadra-Fan have such refined senses of hearing that they can use their own high-pitched voices as a sort of "sonar". By making a high-pitched squeak and then listening for echoes, a Chadra-Fan can roughly pick out his or her physical surroundings, even in total darkness, but this cannot be done without giving away the Chadra-Fan's own location. This can be used to navigate in darkness, but it does not give detailed information about objects detected.

    (For instance, an echo-locating Chadra-Fan can tell that he is in a room roughly 10 meters cubed, with several large crate-sized obstructions, and that a Medium-sized humanoid is standing in front of him. He could perhaps guess whether or not the humanoid in question is wearing hard armor (as it would reflect sound differently), but he cannot pick out facial features, and he certainly can't determine things such as coloration with echo-location.)

    Ranged and close combat attacks can be made by a Chadra-Fan choosing to use echo-location instead of sight, at -4 to the roll to hit. If there is considerable noise in the area (heavy machinery, blaring klaxons, "white noise" generators), this ability may be reduced or negated entirely.
