Mishima Corporate Structure
The Mishima Megaorporation, in actuality, is not so much a single corporation as it is a collection of several smaller corporations known as Keiretsu, which owe their allegiance to the central Mishima family dynasty. In theory, all assets of the Mishima Megacorporation belong to the Mishiman Overlord and his family. Also in theory, the leaders of each of the Keiretsu are mere stewards of the Overlord's assets, and their revenues stipends for managing their fiefdoms.
Each Keiretsu is an industrial fiefdom, ruled by a Samurai family. This Keiretsu is, in turn, divided into sub-divisions, governed by Samurai families of lower status, and those are further sub-divided again and again. The families of least status owe allegiance to more powerful ones, and this line of hierarchy can be traced all the way up to the Lord Heirs and to the Overlord himself.
The head of each Keiretsu is known as a Daimyo, and his power over his fiefdom is absolute. He has the authority to strip his subordinates of their power and status, and to hand their minor fiefdoms over to someone else. This is frequently done as a way to punish vassals that have fallen out of disfavor, and to reward more favored servants.
This inherently unstable system, of course, carries its risks, and it has led to Mishima's current situation. The present Overlord, Nagoya, is an old and feeble man, partially crippled and slightly weak of mind. He has been reduced to the state of a figurehead, while his three Lord Heirs are the true powers of Mishima and its major holdings split across three worlds. In accordance with Mishiman tradition, the Overlord has taken many consorts and concubines in addition to his one legal wife, and his three heirs, while they are his children, are the children of different mothers, and they hate each other passionately. Despite repeated pleas on the part of Nagoya for peace and cooperation between them, they are blatant in their disgust for each other, and this has gone so far as to prompt several assassination attempts. The Overlord is surrounded by advisors - many of whom are in the pay of one Lord Heir or another - who coddle him and shelter him from the reality of what goes on beyond his luxurious palace on Luna.
The other corporations are well aware of this rivalry, and covertly support their own chosen candidates in what may well turn into a bloody civil war once the current Overlord dies. He has not yet appointed a successor, and the mere act of doing so could be enough to spark a war - which could well be why he has been delaying this for as long as possible so far. The other corporations see this as a chance to make a grab for what's left once the mighty Mishima corporation falls once and for all.
Mercury
The most powerful of the three heirs is Lord Heir Moya, Prince of the Soil, Supreme Master of Mercury. He rules the true heart of the corporation with an iron grip ... or, that is, he once did, as a shrewd and decisive leader, until his three sons died in combat with the newly returned Dark Legion. At that time, he retreated to his Garden of Celestial Delights, and has not been seen outside since, only visited by his most trusted advisors and his personal guard, the Hatamoto. His shadow, the Lord Vizier Nozaki, is the true leader of Mercury now, and there are many whispered rumors about him - whispered, for his enemies have a tendency to "disappear". Some say that he is an agent of the Darkness, and some say that he is a crime lord that is keeping Moya in sway by feeding him a steady supply of mind-altering drugs.
Venus
Mishima's holdings on Venus are governed by Lord Heir Maru, Prince of the Oceans. He is the youngest of the Lord Heirs, and only attained this title upon the untimely death of his older brother. Until that time, he had been the leader of his elder brother's armies, and widely regarded as a military genius. His fiefdom on Venus enjoys incredible wealth, but this suffers due to his need to become personally involved in the many conflicts which wrack the jungle planet constantly. It is little secret that his elder brother's death was at the hands of an assassin employed by one of the other two Lord Heirs, though there is only speculation as to which it might be. There is little doubt that, given the chance, Lord Heir Maru would gladly return the favor.
Mars
Lord Heiress Mariko, Princess of the Skies, governs Mishima's holdings on Mars. Of the three Lord Heirs, she is the only one friendly to the Brotherhood, and has many Brotherhood advisors in her court. Of course, this means that of the three, she is the one heir favored by the Cardinal, and he has done his best to try to sway the Overlord's decision in selection of his successor. Some outsiders believe that Mariko may be trying to heal the rift between the Brotherhood and Mishima. Otherwise believe that she's just trying to gain an ally in the inevitable struggle with her half-brothers. Only she knows for sure.
The leader of the entire Mishima Megacorporation is known as the Overlord, and the heirs to his position are known as the Lord Heirs. As is the case with all Mishiman families, if he does not produce an heir, he is fully at rights to adopt an outsider into his family and give him full rights and priveleges as if he were related by blood. Traditionally, the Lord Heirs are given duties to manage the scattered holdings of Mishima across the three major planets of the inner solar system - Mercury, Venus and Mars - while the Mishiman Overlord rules from his palace on Luna. In time, he would appoint the most able of these heirs to be his successor as the next Overlord.
