Dark Legion

Little is known by the average person about the Dark Legion, the Dark Symmetry or the Dark Soul, save for what is taught by the "educational" programs of the Brotherhood by means of television, radio and newspaper.

The Dark Symmetry is a strange, pervasive, evil force capable of corrupting machinery as well as men, but it is especially able to pervert machines of exceptional complexity, or sciences that cross the line between machine and man. As the Brotherhood teaches, centuries ago, mankind's "thinking machines" (computers) not only went berserk, but behaved as if with orchestrated, malicious intent. The Edicts of Toth were issued by the Brotherhood, forbidding the use of many technologies of ancient times that have been all but lost over the centuries upon centuries that have passed since then.

However, there are doubts as to the existence of this Dark Symmetry. Might it really just be an invention by the Brotherhood, intended to keep the "sheep" in their pen, docile and subservient to a bureaucratic, pseudo-religious political body? That would be the assertion of Cybertronic, which has flaunted its disregard for the teachings of the Brotherhood for about a century and a half. And with Cybertronic's example -- and its wondrous accomplishments by using long-forbidden technologies -- the other megacorporations have gotten more bold in experimenting with long lost means of making new and more powerful machines. Mishima has all but banned the Brotherhood from activity on its homeworld of Mercury, though Imperial, Bauhaus and Capitol at the very least give lip service to the cause of the Cardinal.

There are still some who swear by the existence of the Dark Symmetry as more than just myth. Many of those have seen it first-hand, thanks to the Dark Legion. While there are those who believe that the "Dark Legion" is in actuality just a sixth megacorporation using some sort of new technology, the Dark Legion is in fact the army of evil (yes, evil) alien beings who have come to this solar system from another ... and perhaps even another universe entirely, for all that can be told.

The Dark Legion is led by five Dark Apostles, spoken of only in whispers as Algeroth, Ilian, Demnogonis, Muawijhe, and Semai.

  • AlgerothAlgeroth is the most visible of the Dark Apostles, being the Apostle of War, and leader of the Dark Soul's armies of undead legionnaires and other monsters.
  • IlianIlian is the first of the Dark Apostles to appear, known as the Mistress of the Void. She is powerful in the magical arts of the Dark Symmetry, as are her servants.
  • DemnogonisDemnogonis is the Lord of Disease, spreading filth and contagion everywhere he goes. His servants prey upon the wounded on the battlefields, and concoct new infections and plagues to introduce into the worlds of humanity.
  • MuawijheMuawijhe is the Lord of Nightmares and the Lord of Insanity, tormenting the dreams of mankind with horrible nightmares that may very well eventually become reality.
  • SemaiSemai, the Corruptor and the Master of Lies, seeks more subtle ways to undermine humanity, by turning brother against brother, and using the tools of the humans against themselves.
  • Together, the Dark Apostles seek the conquest and corruption of humanity, just as they have conquered countless worlds before, all in the name of a mysterious entity known as the Dark Soul.
