Templars of Gaia LogoTemplars of Gaia

Templar of Gaia The Templars of Gaia are descendants of those who were trapped on the surface of the planet, without any bunkers to retreat to, and who - through process of natural selection and mutation - gradually adapted to the harsh conditions of Dark Eden over the generations.

In appearance, Templars of Gaia look human, save for the fact that they have no body hair, their eyes have no discernable pupils or irises, their skin has a slightly purplish pallor, and their fingernails have grown into sharp black claws. They are highly resistant to toxins and poisons, and can survive on Dark Eden without need for gas masks or environmental controls.

The Templars are based in an area which was once known as France, and have built up a religion around the concept of their place as the successors to humanity, and blessed by a personified Nature as the next stage in mankind's evolution, and as the redeemers of the Earth from mankind's excesses. One offshoot of this belief is that they are superior to more "primitive" strains of humanity, and therefore are furthering the cause of evolution by eradicating all "lesser peoples". Toward this end, they conquer peoples of the other tribes, and press them into service as "legionnaires", basically using them as a "living shield" of cannon fodder in their attacks on other settlements. Those who obey the Templars may live for now, but the ultimate goal of the Templars is the removal of all other tribes from Dark Eden, leaving themselves as the inheritors of the Earth.

This policy, of course, has made it very difficult for megacorporate representatives to make contacts with the Templars, but they've had some marginal success. Some Templars have made contact with the megacorporations in the interest of acquiring advanced technology and weapons, and access to the other planets of the solar system. (After all, why not just inherit Earth, when there are other worlds to dominate?) Some Templars have been hired on as mercenaries by the megacorporations, but already there have been instances of Templars, once taken to other worlds and given superior weapons, turning against their employers.

So far, Cybertronic has had the best success in dealing with the Templars, though this is by no means unilateral. Many Templars are violently aghast at the cybernetic enhancements of Cybertronic, seeing this as the ultimate embodiment of all that is against Nature. Some, however, have bought into a notion that Cybertronic Chasseurs might represent a different direction of "evolution" of mankind, and that the Templars and Cybertronic might have something therefore in common.

It is rumored (perhaps spread by the Templars themselves) that one of the Four Skulls is in Templar hands in what was once Paris, and that they quest to acquire the rest.

Templar weapons tend to utilize organic materials (leather, bone, horn, wood) in their construction, with little use of metal. Their "guns" usually fire darts as opposed to more conventional bullets. While this means that their weapons are very quiet compared to gunpowder weapons, there are trade-offs for penetrating power and speed. Naturally, they are also quite proficient in close combat.
