Capitol Careers
There are a number of special careers associated with Capitol, most of them of course having to do with their military.
Freedom Brigadiers
Even lower than the standard Capitolian Infantry are the Freedom Brigadiers. The Freedom Brigades are manned by criminals given a second chance to prove their worthiness (or just an alternative to a death sentence), and immigrants seeking an opportunity to join the Capitolian corporation. Not all Freedom Brigadiers are soldiers. Those with non-combat skills may find employment as medics, nurses, technicians, and so forth. But the bulk of them are used as troops in high-risk situations. They are, quite simply put, expendible.
Freedom Brigadiers of a criminal background are often given slow-acting poisons to discourage them from going AWOL. They are given an antidote at intervals - and going AWOL would make it that much harder to get the required dosage.
Despite this, morale as a whole tends to be surprisingly high for such a high-risk career. This is largely because those who survive a tour in the Freedom Brigades do indeed have a good shot at becoming Capitolian citizens by being granted a share in the Capitol megacorporation. And as many flaws as there are in Capitolian society, the "average joe" still has a good fighting chance at "making it" in the "Capitolian dream", regardless of his birth.
Armed Interdiction Police
The Armed Interdiction Police (often referred to as "AIPs" or "Apes"), is one of the less prestigious of duties in Capitolian law enforcement. Namely, they're usually called in for riot control, and they tend to handle this duty without much in the way of finesse. They routinely ride armored motorcycles, and make use of boke grenades and rubber bullets. When the AIPs are called in, things are generally severe enough that the authorities are willing to risk the bad media caused by civilian casualties. AIPs basically gas and beat everyone into submission, and, failing that, it's no great secret that they're not above simply running over troublemakers with their bikes.
Free Marines
The Free Marines are comprised of Capitolian troopers who have been demoted because of insubordination, but who have enough of a distinguished service record to warrant giving them another chance. Free Marines work almost autonomously in hazardous missions behind enemy lines, and are trained in the fine arts of camouflage and stealth. Free Marines are typically armed with M-50 assault rifles, with Punisher blades for close combat. One of the most famous Capitolian Doomtroopers, "Big" Bob Watts, was drawn from the ranks of the Free Marines.
Alpha Force
This is Capitol's anti-terrorist special forces unit, trained to operate in primarily urban environments. Alpha Force members wear light ballistic armor painted matte black, thick leather gauntlets, and gas masks that give them an insectoid look. They are easily identified by a grey "Alpha" symbol on the cap and right pauldron. They are typically armed with Punisher handguns and short-swords, and grapple-guns and smoke grenades, but they're also supported by snipers. Out of concern for possible reprisals against family members and associates, the identities of Alpha Force members are kept secret.
Delta Force
Delta Force comprises Capitol's "top gun" squadron of fighter pilots, used in the most crucial of air strikes. They wear purple uniforms, with the unit insignia of a "Delta" symbol (triangle) on the right pauldron.
Sea Lions
The Sea Lions comprise Capitol's amphibious assault special force, trained in attacking by sea or ground. Since they most often see action on Venus, they are also trained in jungle survival and close combat. The Sea Lion unit insignia is that of a lion with its hindquarters replaced by a shark's tail, clutching a trident.
Sunset Strikers
The Sunset Strikers are Capitol's special unit deployed at its interests on Mercury. Many years ago, the Sunset Strikers were instrumental in thwarting an assassination attempt on the Mishiman Overlord, and in honor of that, Sunset Strikers are permitted to carry the daisho (katana and wakizashi) normally reserved for samurai. Sunset Strikers are always trained in Mishiman culture (and language) and in the martial arts. Their dress uniform is red with white armor pieces, with a red "sunburst" symbol on the right pauldron. They also typically wear headbands with the red "sun" on the front. While they are generally respected for their martial prowess, some regard them with disdain as samurai "posers".
The Dog Soldiers are recruited from the nomads that live in and along the Great Rust Desert. They are issued Survivor armor and water reclamation gear, and typically use handguns and large combat knives (or Punisher combos). The Dog Soldiers have in their number many genetically engineered canine-humanoid hybrids - hence the unit name. These creatures are typically referred to as "dogs", despite possible confusion with the four-legged variety. Dog Soldiers specialize in stealthy operations in the Great Rust Desert that call for their prowess as trackers, but are sometimes used in other theaters of combat as well.
Rangers
The Rangers are elite troopers trained for a wide variety of missions, sometimes parachuting into enemy territory. The requirements for entry into the Rangers are quite exacting, and to be a Ranger is a matter of great prestige.
Desert Scorpions
The Desert Scorpions are Capitol's desert terrain special forces, generally used in a defensive capacity for its holdings on Mars. Although not as specialized as the Dog Soldiers, they are trained in camouflage, stealth and survival in the desert.
Antagons and Wolverines
The Antagons are Capitol's special expeditionary force deployed on "Dark Eden" - Earth. Although Earth was long left abandoned for millenia, in recent decades, the megacorporations have begun to turn their eyes back to Earth and to send expeditions to the blasted planet - and to make contact with the "natives". The Antagons are equipped to survive in toxic environments, and are typically armed with twin CAR-24 SMGs, with a heavy weapon for squad support. They are led by soldiers known as Wolverines, so-called due to the claw-like powered weapons they use for close combat.
